Welcome to The OnLion!

Posted by: | August 8, 2008 | 1 Comment |

from the staff

We’re so excited to launch The OnLion. (We saved the exclamation point for the heading line.)

This is where you’ll find all the stories published by The Lion. Some of these articles will end up in the printed version. Others will only be found here at The OnLion.

Our goal is to use this site to keep our reporting FRESH and CURRENT…

  • When events happen at school, we’d like to be able to turn around stories much more quickly than we can with the printed version. For example, you might be interviewed for a piece about an assembly and find your opinions and those of others written up within just a few days.
  • We hope to bring more timely editorials and columns to you. Columns like The Lion Watch and Grinds My Gears can now be updated more regularly. They might be short or long depending on what the writers have to say.
  • We’d like to be able to have fun (and timely) feature stories. A Lion reporter could have an interesting conversation at lunch and share it with the school (with permission, of course!) within days. We might have a “Get to know…” a student or teacher profile up every few days.
  • We also hope to take advantage of other benefits of new media by including more photos, audio files, and video. Imagine Reverend Allen’s infamous “on the street” interviews or more serious sit downs with an administrator or some clips of a game.

And we want YOUR voices to be heard too..

  • Feel free to send us your own story ideas and/or writing at lion_editors@lovett.org. You can also see a staff member or Mr. Newman to pitch an idea for a story, editorial, or column you’d like to write.
  • This site will enable members of the community to comment on each story. You may also email general letters to the editor at lion_editors@lovett.org. If you have a concern with a story or would like to offer your perspective on an issue a story deals with, please word your comment or letter carefully. The site will require you to leave a name and email with your comments. Please do the same with your letters to the editor. We will not publish anonymous letters except under very special (and appropriate) circumstances.
  • You are encouraged to share your thoughts, but please do so in a thoughtful, constructive manner. Consider sharing your comment or letter with a peer or teacher prior to submitting it. Remember that the entire Lovett community and those outside of it will have access to this site (that means parents, siblings, teachers, peers, and countless others). We, of course, reserve the right to delete obviously inappropriate comments. Hurtful or offensive material that falls within the realm of the honor or discipline code will be dealt with accordingly. The site will require you to leave a name and email with your comments. Please do the same with your letters to the editor. We will not publish anonymous letters except under very special (and appropriate) circumstances.
